The Autonomous Regional Corporation of the Dique Canal born with the issuance of Law 99 December 1993 which created the Ministry of Environment, rearranges the public sector responsible for the Management and Conservation of the Environment and Natural Resources Renewable, organizes the National Environmental System, SINA and for other purposes. The Corporation is a corporate body composed of public territorial entities that are geographically features the same ecosystem or make a geopolitical unit, bio-geographic or hydro. Endowed with administrative and financial autonomy, its own legal personality and, with the highest environmental authority in its area of jurisdiction. CARDIQUE has divided its jurisdiction into three (3) ecoregions are:
Coastal Zone Ecoregion. Consisting of the District of Cartagena and municipalities Clemencia, Santa Catalina, Santa Rosa, Turbaco and Villanueva. Ecoregion Canal del Dique. Composed Arjona, Arroyo Hondo, Squid, Mahates, Marialabaja, St. Kitts, St. Stanislaus Kostka , and Turbana Soplaviento. Ecoregion Montes de Maria. Composed of the municipalities of Córdoba Teton, El Carmen de Bolívar, Guam, San Jacinto, San Juan de Nepomuceno and Zambrano.
The Autonomous Regional Corporation of the Dique Canal-Cardique-in its area of jurisdiction as the highest environmental authority to manage the environment and natural resources, aims for sustainable development of communities and productive sectors in the three (3) ecoregions: Canal del Dique, Montes de Maria and Coastal Zone - Cienaga de La Virgen, through the implementation of plans, programs and environmental projects, using innovative technical capacity, human and research.
To be recognized as the Regional Autonomous Corporation leading Caribbean Coast of effective environmental management in the municipalities of the three ecoregions, encouraging communities in their municipalities an attitude change from the use, conservation, recovery and improvement of the environment with a sense of generational commitment to participatory and concerted that strengthens the medium to long term sustainable development in their jurisdiction.
